Source Degeneration

This is the second article of the series by Ali Sheikholeslami and published in IEEE Solid-State Circuits magazine. This article discuss the NMOS transistor with source degeneration -  a resistor in series with its source terminal.
By adding a resistor to NMOS source in series will equivalent to a new NMOS with new transconductance , and output resistance.

This article presents two examples where the concept introduced in the article is applied. One is to find equivalent resistance of a diode-connected NMOS with source degeneration. Second one is to find the resistance looking into drain node when a voltage gain amplifier is inserted between the drain and gate of NMOS transistor.

I will present examples in future posts to show how to put the above concepts into practice while analyzing circuits.
